The BIG3 League is back for its second season, and it should be as fun as the first one.

Usually when NBA stars retire, they go off and do their own thing or end up on television talking about the game they love. Last year a new option to keep playing emerged — the BIG3 League. It’s a professional 3-on-3 basketball league similar to what you’d see in you everyday playground, but with one difference — basketball stars.

Trilogy — who were undefeated (8-0) in the first season — are looking to defend their crown as league champs, and there is a new cast of players. The team captains are DerMarr Johnson (3’s Company), Rashard Lewis (3 Headed Monsters), Brian Scalabrine (Ball Hogs), Mike Bibby (Ghost Ballers), Chauncey Billups (Killer 3s), Corey Maggette (Power), Jermaine O’Neal (Tri-State), and Kenyon Martin (Trilogy).

The game is played under a combination of playground and FIBA international rules. Games are to 50 (must win by 2), and they have a 4-point shot in designated areas on the floor. “Halftime” is when a team scores 25, and each team gets one full and one 30 second time out per half with no carryover.

You can watch the BIG3 every Friday night from now until August 24 (the championship game) on FS1. You can also stream the game live in two places — the FS1 app or FuboTV.

If you’re an NBA fan looking to fill your basketball craving during the offseason, this is a fun style of basketball to watch. It’s not about the money. It’s just about pride and the love of the game.
