The New York Giants will host the Cleveland Browns in Week 1 of the preseason on Thursday, August 9. Here is how to watch this preseason game both online and on television.

With the preseason finally here, we can start to wrap our minds around this concept: Football is back!

This will be the second game to be broadcast on national television during the preseason with the first, of course, being the Hall of Fame game between the Baltimore Ravens and Chicago Bears.

NFL Network will carry the coverage for the 7 p.m. ET kickoff.

It makes sense that this game will be nationally televised as there is an insane amount of hype surrounding both of these teams.

Some might even say that the Browns are poised for a winning season.

However, what draws the type is No. 1 overall draft choice and former Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Baker Mayfield.

Right now, Mayfield is slated to start behind Tyrod Taylor.

With that said, an excellent preseason might force head coach Hue Jackson’s hand and start the rookie.

Although it’s not clear when or if Mayfield will even suit up, it’s safe to say we can look to Ravens rookie quarterback Lamar Jackson’s debut as a blueprint for Mayfield and other rookies—perhaps playing the entire second half.

The Browns have also been in the news recently, trading wide receiver Corey Coleman to the Buffalo Bills.

For the New York Giants, they’re coming off an abysmal, drama-filled 2017 and are looking to rebound.

They also have a notable draft pick. You may have heard of him—No. 2 overall pick, running back Saquon Barkley.

Barkley is in a slightly different circumstance than Mayfield, though.

At the start of 2018, it would be nuts to not start Barkley, so they may try and save him for a preseason injury and play him sparingly, whereas Mayfield is actually fighting for the starting job.

Let’s face it, Jonathan Stewart doesn’t really have a chance of supplanting Barkley as the starter, despite what Shaun O’Hara thinks.

Something tells me the NFL planned this game this way—the battle of the top-two draft choices.
