Girona opened their season with a scoreless draw against Real Valladolid. In the second weekend of La Liga, Girona host Real Madrid at Estadi Montilivi on Sunday. Real opened the season with a 2-0 win against Getafe.

After being promoted prior to last season, Girona signed Cristhian Stuani from Middlesbrough after they were relegated from the Premier League. The signing proved to be one of the best in La Liga. Signed for only €2.5 million, Stuani scored 21 last season. The Blanquivermell will rely on Stuani and Portu to create offense against Real Madrid. The duo combined to score 32 of the club’s 50 goals last season.

Real Madrid started the season on winning note in their first game under new manager Julen Lopetegui. With Cristiano Ronaldo no longer with the club, the pressure is on Gareth Bale to show he can be the man. Bale formed an excellent partnership with Dani Carvajal in the opening game, with both players scoring. The Welsh star and Karim Benzema will both be asked to pick up the scoring with Ronaldo gone. While Madrid won comfortably, they did not start all of their regulars. Real Madrid will only get stronger when Casemiro, Luka Modric, and Raphael Varane play all 90 minutes.
