Cardiff were one of the most popular picks to be relegated before the season started. Despite picking up two points in their first three games, Cardiff have yet to score a goal this season. On Sunday, Cardiff host Arsenal. The Gunners have had a tough start to the season, losing to Manchester City and Chelsea but beat West Ham last weekend.
Neil Warnock’s side will not be able to avoid relegation if they do not start scoring goals. Bobby Reid was signed in the summer from Bristol City after scoring 19 goals and assisting on nine goals in the Championship. However, he has struggled to fit in with his new club. The Bluebirds need Junior Hoilett to pick up his play. The Canadian winger had the best season of his career last year, scoring nine goals and a team-best 11 assists.
After three games, Unai Emery is still trying to figure out which lineup is the best fit for Arsenal. Emery has struggled to fit all of Arsenal’s high-priced stars on the field at the same time. No matter the formation, one of Arsenal recent signings is left out. Mesut Ozil did not play in Arsenal’s 3-1 win last weekend against West Ham, while Alexandre Lacazette and Lucas Torreira came off of the bench as second-half substitutes. Perhaps the biggest challenge for Emery is deciding how to lineup Ozil, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and Aaron Ramsey. The three players play are best suited to play behind the striker. If Emery wants to get all three on the field at the same time, Emery is forced to shift two of the three out wide.
