Juventus host Sassuolo on Sunday, Sept. 16 at Allianz Stadium in Turin. Here’s what to know before tuning in.

Serie A action returns this weekend following the international break with an unlikely top-of-the-table clash when one meets two on Sunday as first-place Juventus takes on second-place Sassuolo at Allianz Stadium in Turin.

The biggest storyline, other than Sassuolo’s surprise position, is Cristiano Ronaldo’s inability to score after three matchdays. While Juve are at nine points, all eyes remain on whether the Portuguese star will finally end his scoring drought at home this weekend.

As Ronaldo struggles to score, former Real Madrid teammate and current Napoli defender Raul Albiol warned that the 33-year-old forward will struggle in Serie A this season.

“It’s true that in Italy, football is more tactical and defensive, as well as being very physical, so you have to know how to play,” Albiol told the Spanish sports daily AS. “Cristiano’s a great player with tremendous quality, but in Italy it’ll be harder for him to score 40 goals.”

Sassuolo, meanwhile, are themselves a major storyline in Serie A this season. The club have already turned a few heads. They defeated Inter Milan 1-0 in the season-opener last month and ran up the score against Genoa 5-3 two weeks ago in a rare goal fest. Nonetheless, Juve remain their sternest test. If Sassuolo truly are a title contender (and it’s too early to tell), they will need at least a draw against Juventus.

The team did a decent job on the summer transfer market, acquiring Kevin-Prince Boateng from Eintracht Frankfurt. The midfielder even joked that he left Germany for Italian food.

“There’s pasta here,” Boateng told the German newspaper Bild.
