Plzen face CSKA Moscow at Doosan Arena on Wednesday, Sept. 19. Here’s all the info you need to watch.

Group G action gets underway on Wednesday with Viktoria Plzen hosting CSKA Moscow in the first Champions League group stage game. Plzen and CSKA are unlikely to get out of the group stage this year, with Real Madrid and Roma favored to advance. However, the Czech side and Russian club are battling for third in the group and a place in Europa League.

Since the beginning of 2010, Viktoria Plzen have played regularly in European competitions. While the reigning Czech champions have played more frequently in Europa League, the club has qualified for the Champions League on two previous occasions. Both Champions League appearances ended with Plzen failing to get out of the group. Plzen have got off to a good start in their domestic league, picking up 21 points in their first eight games. Michael Krmencik has had a great start to the season, scoring seven goals. Krmencik will be the focal point of Plzen’s attack on Wednesday.

CSKA have qualified for the Champions League the past six season. However, the Russian club has finished fourth in their group four times and have not made it out of the group stage since 2011-12. CSKA have got off to a disappointing start in the Premier Liga, picking up only 12 points in seven games. The Russian side has been hit hard by injuries in the opening weeks of the season. Seven players are unavailable because of injuries. CSKA will rely on Russian internationals Mario Fernandes and Alan Dzagoev to build up play in midfield. Dzagoev has struggled since injuring his hamstring in the opening game of the World Cup. While Dzagoev is expected to play, he might not be able to play the full 90 minutes. Dzagoev has only played two games for CSKA this season.

Plzen and CSKA were in the same group for the 2013-14 Champions League campaign. The two clubs won on their home field but ultimately failed to get out of the group.
