Things have not been overly bright for Brighton so far this season (Ha! See what I did there!). But at home, against a big six club who are currently reeling, this is as good of a chance as the Seagulls will have since … well, since they knocked off Manchester United to take three points. Hey, who know, maybe we’ve been underestimating Brighton as giant killers so far. Lots of pressure will fall on Glenn Murray, the savvy striker who’s managed four goals so far this season. He’s found the net in come from behind draws in Brighton’s last two matches that have propelled the Seagulls back up towards the middle of the table. It will be interesting to see what manager Chris Hughton does defensively to deal with the attacking power of Spurs.
Although, with the way Tottenham has played lately, it may not matter all that much. Free fall is a strong word, but when you tell a fan the last time Spurs lost three matches in a row, Tim Sherwood was the gaffer, their faces turn Lilywhite. Losses in the league to Watford and Liverpool, followed by a crushing defeat late against Inter in the Champions League has left Mauricio Pochettino searching for answers.
Dele Alli and Hugo Lloris are injured. Eric Dier, Jan Vertonghen and Harry Kane all look out of sorts, and all of a sudden Spurs find themselves in perhaps their most precarious position in years. Squad depth is an issue once again, and now a thin group will play their third match in a week. Keep an eye on the Spurs midfield in this one, as it could be a cobbled together group once again. Three center-backs and Mousa Dembele in the six slot could be the move if Pochettino has had enough of Dier for a bit.
