Rebecca Bunch is in prison doing “Cell Block Tango” tributes as Crazy Ex-Girlfriend enters its home stretch.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend forced Rebecca to make the most important choice of her life in its season 3 finale: Legally admit she is, in fact, crazy, or go to jail for pushing Trent off a roof (it’s a long story). It was a crafty move from star and creator Rachel Bloom to make her alter ego choose between freedom and leaning into the way the world sees her.

To everyone’s surprise — particularly her love interest and lawyer Nathaniel — Rebecca decided that the only way to truly atone for her actions over the course of the series was to plead guilty, consequences be damned.

Well, she may already be regretting that, as season 4 appears to be kicking off with her in a prison jumpsuit, her best friend Paula working on how to spring her and Nathaniel dealing with his frustrations over losing Rebecca AGAIN in increasingly unhealthy ways. You know, standard Crazy Ex-Girlfriend fare.

Expect Bloom and her creative team to leave everything on the table during Crazy Ex-Girlfriend‘s final 18-episode run, including in the musical department. Bloom is clearly a theater kid at heart, so it’s reasonable to expect that the Chicago parody heavily featured in the show’s season 4 promotional materials is just the tip of the iceberg for the show’s patented musical non-sequiturs.

It’s a little bittersweet knowing this is the last we’re going to see of Rebecca and her West Covina friends/frenemies. But at least we can momentarily rejoice knowing that one of TV’s best shows is back for what is sure to be another smart, hilarious, musical journey into the mind of Rachel Bloom.
