Supergirl finally returns to The CW for season 4 on its new night, and we’ve got all the details you need to watch Supergirl online for the premiere, “American Alien.”
Wow, season 4 already, huh? Feels like just yesterday we watched CBS do something incredibly unexpected by hiring some Glee star to headline a female superhero show. When Supergirl proved to be unsustainable for primetime on such a big network, the show moved to The CW, and boy, what a roller coaster it’s been since then.
Though it’s been four seasons, if you pretend seasons 2 and 3 never happened, then this is really like our second season. Second season, and third life, I guess. Maybe The CW can get it right this time.

By all means, they’re making some sort of effort. By consolidating the male cast (who needs ’em?) and adding Nicole Maines as the first transgender superhero, Supergirl can easily win back viewers who criticized its lack of intellectual storylines, creativity, and sadly, focus on Supergirl.
Now, let’s check out the synopsis for the season premiere, courtesy of TV Guide:
"In the Season 4 premiere, Kara welcomes a new cub reporter to CatCo. Meanwhile, James and Lena argue about James’ impending indictment for acting as the vigilante Guardian, while Alex and Brainy struggle to get in sync at the DEO. Supergirl is called into action when remnants of the anti-alien terrorist organization Cadmus try to assassinate pro-alien leaders, but their endgame turns out to be much more sinister than she expected."
I hope the synopsis egregiously misspelled “James and Lena break up” or something, because we can only take so much forced romance in one show.
While the promo for “American Alien” doesn’t look groundbreaking, and we’ll always know Max Landis did it better, at least they’re trying. Check out the teaser below:
You know how The Flash always messes with time travel and the speed force, and people get kind of tired of that? Well, I’m pretty tired of Supergirl and war. Non, Rhea, Cadmus, Reign — enough. The doppelganger storyline could be fun and Mercy Graves sure looks like she’s having a good time, but don’t forget that none of these name drops compare to this year’s crossover event that will see the introduction of Batwoman and Lois Lane. (Gasp!)
