South Carolina is ready for primetime with the addition of Shilo Sanders to their 2019 recruiting class.

The South Carolina Gamecocks added to an already strong 2019 recruiting class by securing the commitment of Shilo Sanders, the son of Hall of Fame cornerback Deion Sanders. ,

Gamecocks coach Will Muschamp out-dueled Tennessee and Colorado State for Primetime Junior. The three-star recruit from Trinity Christian School in Texas has experience all over the defensive backfield. Like his father, his primary position is corner but he saw time in the slot and deep at safety. Also like his father, Shilo was used as a receiver for Trinity during his high school playing career. We last saw Sanders playing in the Under Armor All-American Game.

He ranks as the No. 664 overall recruit, No. 61 cornerback and the No. 83 recruit in the state of Florida, according to the 247Sports Composite. South Carolina is hoping the bloodlines will translate into Sanders growing into an impact performer with the Gamecocks.

Sanders is another piece of the puzzle for Muschamp and South Carolina. They currently sit at No. 21 nationally in recruiting rankings according to 247Sports. The class is headlined by five-star defensive tackle Zacch Pickens. Pickens (Anderson, S.C.) is the No. 8 overall recruit and the No. 1 defensive tackle in the class. The Gamecocks were also able to grab the country’s No. 2 pro-style quarterback in Ryan Hilinski.

Shilo is not the only member of his family getting buzz on the recruiting trail. His younger brother Shedeur Sanders is a dual-threat quarterback in the class of 2021. John Wittle of 247 Sports mentioned Shedeur as a possible player to follow in his brother’s path to South Carolina

There have been a handful of former NFL greats sending their kids off to college in recent memory. The best of the bunch might be at Alabama where Patrick Surtain Jr. was a five-star recruit and played as a freshman for Nick Saban.

Sanders has some big shoes to fill. Gamecocks fans hope to see him high-stepping into the end zone next season.
