Is Saturday Night Live new tonight, February 2?

Saturday Night Live has been back for two episodes in 2019, bringing a Golden Globe winner and Academy Award nominee as hosts. Will tonight bring a third?

Nothing has been more peculiar than the Saturday Night Live season 44 schedule. For the longest time (about a month), there were no new SNL episodes gracing our televisions, as the Christmas and New Year’s Day period understandably saw the staff and crew go home to their families. However, that’s just two weeks, as it took the show an extended amount of time to get back to work.

Then, over the past two weeks, the Saturday Night Live talent booking office has been working overtime, bringing two first-time hosts in Rachel Brosnahan and James McAvoy; both prestigious actors in the field of comedy and drama. Both had shaky starts, and the musical guests of Led Zeppelin fan club Greta Van Fleet were delightfully awkward and Meek Mill wasn’t appointment television.

Normally when SNL starts its second half, it fires on all cylinders for a string of episodes before taking another large break. In fact, you can’t even blame the Super Bowl as a reason why it could be broken up, as the last time Saturday Night Live didn’t take place on the big game’s weekend was in season 38 back in 2013.

Indeed, Saturday Night Live is not new tonight, as the show is taking a quick one-week break. However, the show will be back for at least two weeks in a row in the middle of February, as Halsey will be the host and musical guest on Feb. 9. Another first-time host will follow, as Don Cheadle takes the reins on Feb. 16 alongside musical guest Gary Clark Jr.

SNL season 44 has been exceedingly frustration as it gets most of its greatest moments in Weekend Update and pre-recorded content. Hopefully, this short break will effectively hit the reset button and the cast and crew can fire on all cylinders in February.

Next. Best cold opens on Saturday Night Live. dark
