After falling just one game short of a trip to the Super Bowl, which free agents could be on the Chiefs’ radar as they head into the 2019 season?

It was a pretty wild year to be a Chiefs fan in 2018. From the glory of the dominance of second-year quarterback Patrick Mahomes, to the awful reality of Kareem Hunt’s swift departure.

Despite all the ups and downs, the Kansas City still made an AFC Championship game appearance and look primed to ride the golden arm of quarterback Patrick Mahomes to more success in the years to come.

It wasn’t all roses and sunshine on the defensive side of the ball, however, which led to the eventual firing of defensive coordinator Bob Sutton. With Sutton out of the picture and Steve Spagnuolo in his place, expect the Chiefs to invest heavily in building up their defense this offseason. Winning with your franchise quarterback still on his rookie deal is critical to success in the NFL, which is exactly what Kansas City will hope to do this offseason.

Entering the offseason with approximately $26.2 million in cap space per Over The Cap, it’s unlikely that Kansas City will go on any sort of major spending spree. And while there is plenty of defensive talent in the upcoming draft, here’s a look at five players on both sides of the ball who could help improve the Chiefs roster via the free agent market.
