Colonial Athletic Association Tournament (CAA)

March 9-12, 2019

The Colonial Athletic Association conference tournament will take place in North Charleston, South Carolina from March 9th until March 12th. The favorite Hofstra (+120) and senior Justin Wright-Foreman will look to earn an automatic bid to the big dance and hope to fend off Northeastern (+180) and Charleston (+250) among others.

We will identify the best value and Dark Horse options for the CAA to add a future bet to your wagers. Follow along at @AlexMcKinnonDFS for other conference breakdowns and daily picks.

Best Value: Charleston +250

With the tournament hosted in North Charleston, South Carolina, the returning CAA tournament champions, College of Charleston receives an instant advantage by playing close to home and generating a friendly atmosphere. They ended the season with 2 straight wins and 9 wins in the last 11 including wins over other ‘favorites’ such as William & Mary and Northeastern.

In Charleston’s two games against Hofstra this season, they lost their first game (1/19) on the road by twelve (86-72) but took the Pride to the brink in their final match up of the season (99-95 L).

Charleston is the most balanced team across the board in the CAA and are lead by their two First Team All-CAA upperclassmen, Grant Riller (22.3 ppg) and Jarrell Brantley (19.5 ppg, 8.4 rpg). With Hofstra struggling in the final weeks of the season, I think the value bet with Charelston +250 is the best option on the board.

Dark Horse: William & Mary +1200

One of the youngest teams in the conference, #4 seed William & Mary will look to make a deep run in the 2019 CAA conference tournament behind their double-double machine, Junior Nathan Knight (21 ppg, 8.5 rpg). They have a tough road to glory having to face #5 seeded Delaware before a meeting with #1 seeded Hofstra.

The Tribe are one of the hottest teams in the conference with 5 straight wins to end the season including an OT victory against #3 seed Charleston. W&M dominated Delaware in their last showdown on 2/2 (84-63) and only lost by 2 in their previous match up on 1/3.

The also carry the 2nd best defense in the CAA. In their two match ups against Hofstra this season, they lost by a small margin of 6 to the Pride on 2/9 (93-87 L) but took them to triple overtime on 1/10 losing a heart breaker, 93-90 at home.

It is always hard to beat the same team three times in one year. If you are looking for the best return on a bet with a decent chance of taking home the title, William & Mary has to be your bet.
