Why isn’t Station 19 new tonight, April 25? Find out why ABC isn’t airing a new Station 19 season 2 episode this Thursday.

Why isn’t Station 19 new tonight? The Grey’s Anatomy spinoff is missing from ABC‘s primetime schedule this week, and there’s a very specific reason why that most TV fans may not have been aware of.

This evening is the beginning of the 2019 NFL Draft, which ABC is televising in primetime for all of the football fans out there. ABC is the corporate sibling of ESPN, and the two networks are coming together for this year’s draft coverage. That’s pre-empting the entirety of ABC’s normal Thursday night lineup for draft boards and trading picks.

It’s not a big deal for Station 19 fans, though, because this is just a one-week break and it’s near the end of the second season anyway. There are only three episodes left, and the next one up may be the most important.

When the series returns on May 2, it’ll be the second hour of a crossover with its parent series Grey’s Anatomy. In the episode, which is entitled “Always Ready,” one of the firefighters is injured in the line of duty and admitted to Grey Sloan.

That leaves the rest of the firehouse worrying about whether or not they’re about to lose one of their own. And it could be a possibility, since the Shonda Rhimes shows love those end of season plot twists!

So now fans know why isn’t Station 19 new tonight, and while it may not make them happy if they aren’t also NFL fans, it’s not a game-changer. The change is going to happen next Thursday when the crossover gets underway, and the show might potentially kill someone off. Maybe now is the time to watch past episodes and guess at who the unlucky character will be?
