Never one to end on a low note, watch the Saturday Night Live season 44 finale live stream online tonight to catch Paul Rudd hosting for the fourth time.

It’s hard not to hear about the political strife currently going on across the southern United States and seek escapism. Saturday Night Live, once appointment television for satire holding up a mirror to America, has faltered a bit over the past years, losing the bite it once had up front in the cold open and saving what they have for the mid-show main course of Weekend Update.

Saturday Night Live season 44 has been buoyed, somewhat, by a robust series of hosts, many of which had taken up host duty for the first time. This year brought many actors of various levels of comedic acumen bringing their A-game, which can be more than what can be said about the writing staff in what has been a lackluster season for memorable sketches.

Thankfully, SNL will end this season on a high note (presumably) with a more-than-capable host in Paul Rudd. This will be his fourth time leading the show and has proven to be a great actor willing to lean into the absurdity time and time again. If he’s willing to play a hardcore Directioner and play a snooty, bratty fan of One Direction with a bunch of young girls and pull it off hilariously, he can (and will) do anything at 100 percent. He’s in an inner circle of great modern hosts.

Speaking of keeping your circle tight, DJ Khaled is here to bring the major keys to success and, likely, some major musical surprise cameos as a musical guest. His 11th studio album, Father of Asahd, just dropped yesterday, with more featured artists than J. Cole is comfortable with. Who knows; we could see Jay-Z, Future, Beyoncé, Justin Bieber, Chance the Rapper, Quavo or others, depending on which songs he plays or if he brings the artists with him.

After tonight, that will be a wrap on Saturday Night Live season 44. It certainly wasn’t one of the strongest we’ve seen over decades of the show’s existence, but let’s hope the show continues to end the year on a somewhat high note.
