Oakland A’s streak snapped and more highlights from Tuesday
The Oakland A’s streak is over, Derek Dietrich keeps slugging and more highlights you may have missed on May 28.
Streak Snapped
The 10-game win streak is over for the Oakland A’s as they fell to the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday. Shohei Ohtani drove in the game-winning run in the top of the ninth. Even though the A’s hit three home runs in the game, they couldn’t muster up two runs in the bottom of the ninth to keep the game and their streak alive.
Don’t worry, Oakland. Things will get better in other sports this week.
Double D’s Dingers
Cincinnati Reds player Derek Dietrich was signed to a minor league deal in February. He now has 17 home runs in the majors in just 118 at-bats. 12 of his last 17 hits have left the yard. His last six hits have all been home runs. No one man should have all that power.
Garcia’s Trip Inside The Park
Avisaíl García accomplished one of my favorite things in baseball: an inside the park home run. Something has to go horribly wrong for the defense to allow an inside the park home run. And something went horrible wrong for Toronto Blue Jays defense..
Osaka Overcomes
It was tougher than expected for Naomi Osaka but she managed to get it done, defeating Anna Karolina Schmiedlova after dropping the first set 6-0.
Jonquel Jones Shines
Reigning WNBA Sixth Woman of the Year Jonquel Jones helped keep the Connecticut Sun undefeated, dropping 25 points on the Indiana Fever.
Strasburg Strikes
11 strikeouts for Stephen Strasburg, keeping the Atlanta Braves at bay. Some teams give out rewards if the entire pitching staff gets 11 Ks in a game. Hopefully Washington fans get a reward for Strasburg’s hard work.
