Baseball legend, David Ortiz is reportedly hospitalized in the Dominican Republic with a gunshot wound.

According to reports former baseball player David Ortiz has been shot and currently hospitalized due to a gunshot wound. The report, from Dominican Republic news outlet CDN 37, says that Ortiz was wounded near Bar Vial of Avenida Venezuela, Santo Domingo Este in the Dominican Republic.

They also posted a video of police and medic at the scene.

Ortiz’s father, Leo Ortiz confirmed the reports with ESPN Digital on Sunday evening.

“They called me to tell me that David is injured and that they took him to a medical center, but they did not tell me how he is or exactly where he was transferred,” Ortiz’s father said.

Early reports indicate that the shooting was an attempted robbery and that a suspect has already been caught. A video surfaced which reportedly shows the suspect being assaulted by citizens on the street (WARNING the video is disturbing). Reports are unclear on the medical status of the 43-year-old MLB legend though multiple tweets have surfaced reporting that Ortiz was shot in the abdomen and is undergoing surgery.

Ortiz played in the major leagues 20 seasons and is most recognized for his time on the Boston Red Sox. He is a 10-time All-Star and won three World Series titles with the Red Sox over the course of his long career. He retired prior to the 2016 season.
