England and Scotland face off on Sunday, June 9 at the Stade de Nice in Nice, France. Here’s what you need to know before tuning in.

The rivalry between England and Scotland, a staple of the men’s game for over a century, will renew itself on June 9 in Nice during the group stage of the Women’s World Cup.

The Group D match features an England team that has the talent to contend for the World Cup against a Scotland side that has qualified for the tournament finals for the very first time.

The women’s teams of both nations have several historic connections. At the 2012 London Olympics, for example, two Scottish players made up the Great Britain team (composed primarily of English-born players) that were knocked out of the quarterfinals by Canada.

Scotland’s first-ever women’s international came in 1972 (a 3-2 defeat to England) and its most-lopsided loss came a year later (8-0), again against England.

More recently, England, led by defender Lucy Bronze, have emerged as one of the world’s best female teams, finishing a surprise fourth at the last World Cup four years ago in Canada. England also recently won the SheBelieves Cup for the first time, a tournament that included the defending World Cup champions United States. The team is coached by former Manchester United and England midfielder Phil Neville.
