France play Brazil for just the second time in Women’s World Cup history as they look for a second consecutive quarterfinal bow. The hosts qualified with ease from Group, taking nine points from nine from Korea, Nigeria and Norway. The talented hosts are out to win their first World Cup this summer and will be eager to prove their title credentials by making a statement against an out-of-form Brazil.

Selecao came into the tournament on the back of a record nine game losing streak. They were able to beat Jamaica quite convincingly in their opener, which had many believing the Canaries were back in form, however a defeat to Australia and a less than convincing performance against Italy left Brazil needing the third place spot to qualify from what should of been a winnable group.

France and Brazil haven’t met since the 2003 World Cup group stages, a match which ended in a 1-1 draw. Given the talent on the pitch, one would suspect the scoreline might not be so different on Sunday. However, fans of both sides will be hoping for a more entertaining encounter than the one they were treated to 16 years ago.
