The United States hosts Mexico in the Gold Cup final on Sunday, July 7 at Chicago’s Soldier Field. Here’s what to know before you watch.

The United States and Mexico, two of CONCACAF’s strongest teams, renew their bitter rivalry on Sunday in Chicago with the Gold Cup on the line.

The USMNT has had a strong tournament, winning all of their five games with the offensive pairing of Christian Pulisic and Weston McKennie proving that this team has a very bright future.

Mexico, also undefeated at this Gold Cup, has had a tougher time getting to the final. After needing a penalty-kick shootout to eliminate Costa Rica in the quarterfinals, Mexico only advanced to the championship game on Tuesday after beating Haiti 1-0 in overtime.

The U.S. had to endure a 90-minute weather delay the following day in the tournament’s other semifinal before getting past Jamaica 3-1. Pulisic had two goals in that game to send the U.S. to the championship game.

The United States and Mexico have met in the Gold Cup final on five previous occasions. The Americans winning the 2007 title match, while Mexico defeated them in 1993, 1998, 2009 and 2011. The Americans are the defending champions after defeating Jamaica 2-1 in the final two years ago.
