5 things to watch for in Serie A this season

With another Serie A season upon us, the big question is whether anyone can dethrone Juventus as the league’s best team. Here are five things to watch for.

Italy’s top flight starts up again later this month — and it is expected to be another wonderful season.

Considered among the top five domestic league competitions in Europe, Serie A‘s stock has risen considerably over the last few seasons thanks to the consistency and domination of Juventus throughout much of this decade.

Add to that the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo a year ago and Serie A can boast about having one of the best players in the world (the other is Barcelona’s Lionel Messi) playing there each weekend. As a result, it has once again enjoyed a global following for the first time since its heyday in the late 1980s and early ’90s.

The season officially gets off the ground on August 24 with an intriguing doubleheader: Juventus will play a tricky away match at Parma, followed by Fiorentina hosting Napoli. Juventus, winners of the last eight straight league titles, is favored to do it all again. Napoli, who finished second three out of the last four seasons, will be looking to break that streak this season.

Plenty of storylines will develop over the course of the season. Here are five things to watch for this season.
