Early-week NFL odds for Week 5 point to a number of close games, while the usual suspects are projected to be blown out again.

We’re already a quarter of the way through the 2019 NFL season. There have been surprises — who knew the Jacksonville Jaguars had such a capable backup quarterback or that the Buffalo Bills seem like a contender despite falling to the New England Patriots in Week 3, as two examples. But while we don’t quite yet know which teams are for real, it’s starting to become easier to identify the league’s basement-dwellers this year.

One of those, the winless Miami Dolphins, mercifully are on their bye week in Week 5. But others, like Washington and the New York Jets, won’t be so lucky. They are the two double-digit underdogs in the early week odds. With a number of competitive contests set for this week’s slate, most of the early odds are close. Let’s take a look.
