The second Champions League game in Group E kicks off on Wednesday at Anfield as Liverpool host Red Bull Salzburg. Liverpool lost their first game of the tournament, losing 2-0 to Napoli. Red Bull Salzburg had the most impressive victory of the tournament, beating Genk 6-2.
Liverpool are perfect in the Premier League, holding a five-point lead over Manchester City. While the Reds lost to Napoli in their first game, that should not be a concern for the defending Champions League winners. Last year, Liverpool lost all three of their away games, losing to Paris Saint-Germain, Napoli and Red Star Belgrade. The Reds will look to bounce back against Salzburg. Jurgen Klopp will turn to his front three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah. The trio has carried Liverpool to back-to-back Champions League finals and has combined for 13 goals in all competitions.
The biggest winner from matchday one was Erling Haaland. The 19-year-old striker opened the tournament with three goals against Genk. Haaland has been incredible this season, scoring 17 goals in 10 games across all competitions this season. The Norwegian striker has been the key to Salzburg’s success this season. Red Bull Salzburg are five points up in the Austrian Bundesliga title race. The Red Bulls are unbeaten in all competitions and their lone blemish is a draw against LASK. If Haaland has another incredible performance, Salzburg could potentially steal a point from Liverpool.
