With a quarter of the NFL season in the books, we look ahead to our fantasy football positional rankings for week five. Can a pair of Chiefs tame the Colts and ride to the top of the fantasy ranks?

Hello everyone and welcome to my weekly positional rankings column! This is here to help you make the best lineup decisions each and every week. It’s pretty simple. If you are in a dilemma and don’t know which player to start at a position, my advice would be to go with the player that is higher in the rankings. Simple enough. Now let’s dive right into the quarterback rankings for week five!

Quarterbacks

  1. Patrick Mahomes KC vs IND
  2. Jameis Winston TB vs NO
  3. Deshaun Watson HOU vs ATL
  4. Tom Brady NE vs WAS
  5. Lamar Jackson BAL vs PIT
  6. Matt Ryan ATL vs HOU
  7. Carson Wentz PHI vs NYJ
  8. Kyler Murray AZ vs CIN
  9. Jacoby Brissett IND vs KC
  10. Aaron Rodgers GB vs DAL
  11. Dak Prescott DAL vs GB
  12. Baker Mayfield CLE vs SF
  13. Philip Rivers LAC vs DEN
  14. Andy Dalton CIN vs AZ
  15. Teddy Bridgewater NO vs TB
  16. Chase Daniel CHI vs OAK
  17. Kyle Allen CAR vs JAC
  18. Josh Allen BUF vs TEN
  19. Mason Rudolph PIT vs BAL
  20. Daniel Jones NYG vs MIN
  21. Jimmy Garoppolo SF vs CLE
  22. Kirk Cousins MIN vs NYG
  23. Gardner Minshew JAC vs CAR
  24. Joe Flacco DEN vs LAC
  25. Marcus Mariota TEN vs BUF
  26. Luke Falk NYJ vs PHI
  27. Derek Carr OAK vs CHI
  28. Colt McCoy WAS vs NE

Pardon the double negative here, but you can’t not have Patrick Mahomes as your number one quarterback. He has been incredible this season and faces a Colts defense that has given up 300+ yards and three touchdowns to opposing quarterbacks in two of their four games this season.

Jameis Winston has been on fire of late, throwing for 380+ yards and three or four touchdowns in each of his past two games. This week he gets a Saints defense that has been prone to giving up big games to opposing QBs, making him one of my favorite plays this week.

Other quarterbacks with favorable matchups that may be worth starting in season-long or playing in DFS include Tom Brady vs WAS, Kyler Murray vs CIN, Jacoby Brisset vs KC, Andy Dalton vs AZ, Teddy Bridgewater vs TB, and Chase Daniel vs OAK.

Dak Prescott has been a top fantasy quarterback to this point on the year, but faces a tough Packers secondary in week five. I don’t think that Cowboys vs Packers game will be beneficial for either Prescott or Aaron Rodgers, as both are ranked a little lower than usual.

Other tough matchups for top quarterbacks include Philip Rivers vs DEN, Baker Mayfield vs SF, and Gardner Minshew vs CAR. While these guys may persist and put up a solid fantasy day nonetheless, you may want to consider another option for your starting lineup or DFS squad.
