Halloween is a special time of the year at WWE. The New Day has quietly owned this holiday every season with their creative costumes.

The New Day has been part of some hilarious moments over the years. And Halloween is typically a memorable time of the year for the WWE Universe. Usually, there are different gimmick matches for special editions of Monday Night Raw and Friday Night SmackDown. With the holiday falling on a Thursday this year, SmackDown should restore what’s become an annual tradition: The New Day completely owning with their Halloween costumes.

In the past few years, the trio has been involved in either a backstage segment or a match on the holiday show. Each time, they donned a hilarious outfit paying tribute to stars of WWE’s past. Here we’ll take a look at these epic outfits and try and predict who The New Day will show up as in 2019.

2016: The three faces of Charles Wright

Three years ago, the New Day took the shape of a WWE legend’s multiple personas. Wright performed under multiple ring names during his WWE tenure. Perhaps his most popular identity, the Godfather, was worn by Kofi Kingston. The Godfather was popular during the Attitude Era for things that wouldn’t fly on programming now. Big E would took the form of Wright when he was a member of the Nation of Domination as Kama Mustafa. Lastly, Xavier Woods took on an earlier persona of Wright’s, known as Papa Shango. Shango was a Voodoo doctor Wright portrayed in the early 1990s.  This Halloween segment took place during the New Day’s longest title reign in the build-up for the Survivor Series pay-per-view.

2017 – Jimmy Hart, Brother Love, and Akeem

The following year, the trio decided to dress as three legends from the World Wrestling Federation days. Woods played the “Mouth of the South” Jimmy Hart. Hart is a pioneer of the company known for managing Hulk Hogan. Big E took the persona of Akeem “The African Dream.” Akeem, formerly known as One Man Gang, debuted this character in 1988. The character was portrayed as having gone “back” to his African roots despite not being African, which received a ton of criticism. Kingston portrayed the current Executive Director of SmackDown, Bruce Prichard, under his ring name Brother Love. Popular for donning a red face, his segment the “Brother Love Show,” and claims of preaching the word of love.

The 2017 Halloween segment was also in the midst of Survivor Series season. A backstage dispute between the trio and Rusev Day would break out over Rusev wasting Big E’s candy. The two would then compete in a match later that evening.

2018: The Brood

Paying homage to another trio, The New Day’s 2018 Halloween look was definitely their most memorable wardrobe change. What started off as their usual entrance to the ring saw them enter as the Brood. Big E as Gangrel, Kofi played Christian while Woods was WWE Hall of Famer Edge. All three men dressed in the gothic vampire costumes from the early days of Edge and Christian’s career. The New Day didn’t short change on the effects as Big E did Gangrel’s famous blood spit into the air.

2019: ???

The trio will certainly keep the momentum going this year and the possibilities are endless. The group once portrayed the Wyatt Family during a past rivalry. Some of their WrestleMania gear has showcased tributes to Dragon Ball Z and Final Fantasy. Perhaps the New Day can dress as The Shield, which would be funny considering Jon Moxley (formerly known as Dean Ambrose) is no longer with the company. Or maybe taking a subtle shot at AEW and the Inner Circle or the Elite. It’s worth noting that Woods and Kenny Omega have a friendly rivalry. One thing is for sure and that’s The New Day lives for moments like these and on Halloween, their costumes will be must-see.
