Washington Nationals’ pitcher Stephen Strasburg named 2019 World Series MVP.

After a whirlwind 2019 World Series between the Houston Astros and the Washington Astros, we have finally crowned the new kings of baseball – the Washington Nationals. And while being a member of the World Series championship team is cool in its own right, being named the 2019 World Series Most Valuable Player is in a ballpark all its own (pun intended).

Washington Nationals’ pitcher Stephen Strasburg is this year’s MVP and honestly, its not hard to see why.

Strasburg was the No. 1 draft pick in 2009 and boy did it (eventually) pay off for the Nats. In the 2019 season, he pitched eight scoreless innings against the Miami Marlins to become the career leader in innings pitched by a National. He went 18-6 with a 3.32 ERA in the regular season. His performance in Game 6 (8.1 IP, 2 R, 7 Ks), which forced a Game 7, is likely his post-season highlight.

Alongside Max Scherzer, they went 10-0 in games started during the playoffs, the best team record in games started by any duo in a single postseason in MLB history, according to ESPN. He is also the first No. 1 draft pick to ever win World Series MVP.

The Nationals defied the odds to come from behind in a series they were never expected to win to come behind in a Game 7 everyone had thought they’d already lost to win the 2019 series in their first-ever appearance.

The Washington Nationals defeated the Houston Astros in Game 7 to win the 2019 World Series in Houston, TX. Follow along with FanSided MLB for all your baseball news and features throughout the year.
