The Champions League returns on Tuesday with the penultimate game of the group stage. Lokomotiv Moscow host Bayer Leverkusen at RZD Arena in Russia. Both clubs enter the game with three points and likely have to win out if they are going to have any hope of advance the knockout stage.
Lokomotiv are second in the Russian Premier Liga with 34 points in 17 games. While the Moscow side has been great in their domestic league, they have struggled in the Champions League group stage. Lokomotiv have not won a Champions League game since the first game of the group stage when they beat Bayer Leverkusen 2-1. Grzegorz Krychowiak leads Lokomotiv with nine goals in all competitions. The Polish midfielder scored in the first game against Leverkusen and will play a key role in Tuesday’s game.
Bayer Leverkusen got off to a terrible start in the Champions League, losing the first three games of the group stage. Leverkusen’s mediocre play has continued into the Bundesliga, where the club current sits ninth in the table. Manager Peter Bosz will have to adjust his starting XI, as Kai Havertz will miss his second straight game with an injury. The loss of Havertz will put more pressure on Kevin Volland to perform. Volland leads Leverkusen with seven goals in all competitions this season.
