NBA Players Association: Athletes will still get paid during season halt

The NBA Players Association has announced that athletes will still get paid during season halt in light of coronavirus.

In light of the coronavirus pandemic, we are finding silver linings anywhere we can. And while this latest gold nugget may not directly affect any fans, it certainly affects the players we pay to watch compete.

On Saturday afternoon, reports surfaced which indicated NBA players would still get paid even though the season was on hold (and potentially canceled altogether) due to the coronavirus pandemic which is sweeping through the world.

According to The Athletic’s, Shams Charania, the NBA Players Association “fully expect that players will continue to receive salary on their designated paydays.”

This news comes after Utah Jazz player, Rudy Gobert, who was one of the first NBA players confirmed with the coronavirus, donated $500,000 to go towards the employees (stadium crew, etc) who are impacted by the sudden halt of the NBA season.

There is no word, at press time, for when the season would resume and it’s highly possible the entire season could be scrapped.

The coronavirus first emerged in Dec. 2019 in the city of Wuhan, China. To date, more than 100,000 cases have been confirmed worldwide and the virus has been identified in more than 120 countries, including the United States.
