This Is Us season 4 is over, but fans may already be wondering when the Pearsons will be back on screens.

Well, that’s that! When the credits roll on “Strangers, Part Two,” This Is Us will have officially wrapped its fourth season, but fans are already looking ahead to when we’ll see the Pearsons again next. Has This Is Us been renewed for a fifth season? When will This Is Us season 5 premiere? How has This Is Us been affected by the novel coronavirus?

Has This Is Us been renewed for season 5?

This Is Us has indeed been renewed for a fifth season. It was renewed for three more seasons in the midst of season 3, and the creative team has said the Pearsons’ story will end after season 6.

So, yes! It’s not a matter of if the Pearsons and This Is Us will be back, but when.

When will This Is Us season 5 premiere?

This is a tricky one. Typically, the show premieres in mid-to-late September in the Tuesday 9 p.m. ET slot on NBC. In a normal year, that means we’re likely looking at a This Is Us season 5 premiere date of Tuesday, Sept. 22.

However, 2020 is far from a usual year. This Is Us‘s production so far has not been affected by the novel coronavirus — it was already wrapped when networks began shutting down shows and it hasn’t started production on season 5 yet. But whether the show will premiere its usual time in late September depends on whether it starts production on time.

Realistically and conservatively, it’s very easy to see a world in which in NBC pushes the Pearsons to a winter premiere in January 2021. But again: It all depends on coronavirus.

How will coronavirus affect This Is Us season 5?

It’s hard to say, yet, how the novel coronavirus pandemic will affect This Is Us season 5. The NBC drama typically begins production in July in order to meet their September premiere dates.

Right now, it’s impossible to say what the world will look like in July. Production on essentially ever entertainment property has been suspended or postponed as the world and country practice self-isolation and social distancing in an effort to flatten the curve of the spread of coronavirus. To what degree productions will be up and running again in July, if at all, is unknown, and whether networks will choose to defer upcoming shows or movies in order to revisit unfinished productions is also unknown.
