Alex Rodriguez

Like Woods, A-Rod has one of those rise-fall-rise again histories. When he announced his retirement from baseball, he said he wanted to be known as someone who fell a lot, and got back up every time. That was surely the case.

Rodriguez was undoubtedly on his way to a first-ballot career. However, he was involved in not one, but two steroid scandals. In 2009, he admitted to taking performance-enhancing drugs during his tenure with the Texas Rangers. Of course, that contract was, at the time, by far the biggest in professional sports history. He denied ever using performance-enhancing substances in a 2007 interview with Katie Couric, although it was eventually reported he tested positive in 2003.

In 2013, Rodriguez was the most famous name in the Biogenesis scandal, a list that included Ryan Braun and Nelson Cruz. Rodriguez was initially suspended 211 games — the remaining games of 2013 and all of 2014. He appealed the initial suspension, played in 2013 and the suspension was eventually reduced to all of 2014. He infamously, and emotionally, claimed his innocence on WFAN, sued the Yankees and was booed in his home ballpark well often.

Upon returning in 2015, A-Rod racked up a .930 OPS, and won back the hearts of Yankees fans. After they lost that season’s Wild Card Game to the Astros, he joined FOX as an analyst, and is ESPN’s lead color commentator for Sunday Night Baseball, as well as a successful entrepreneur. Rodriguez went through hell and back, and while some obviously still hate him, he has had quite the babyface turn.

Also, isn’t anyone else extremely curious about his and Derek Jeter’s relationship? They were best friends, and then they couldn’t stand each other. I’d watch a 10-hour documentary on that alone.
