Patrick Mahomes sure seems to be happy with the Kansas City Chiefs’ first-round draft selection Clyde Edwards-Helaire.

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs already have an offense so potent it helped the team win a Super Bowl so nobody could blame GM Brett Veach if he decided to upgrade his defense with the 32nd pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

But sometimes the best defense is a strong offense.

The Chiefs doubled down on offense in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, selecting dynamic LSU running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Edwards-Helaire was somewhat of a surprise pick, if only because all of the other top running backs were still on the board. J.K. Dobbins from Ohio State, Jonathan Taylor from Wisconsin, and D’Andre Swift out of Georgia were all thought to be possible candidates to be the first back off the board but the Chiefs gave that honor to Edwards-Helaire. Drafting is all about fit, however, and the Chiefs clearly thought Edwards-Helaire was meant to play in Kansas City’s high-octane offense.

Mahomes appears to agree. He took to Twitter following the pick to tweet his feelings.

Mahomes should be happy. He already heads up one of the most deadly offenses in the NFL featuring weapons like Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce, and Sammy Watkins. Incumbent running back Damien Williams is no slouch himself and was a big part of helping the Chiefs win the Super Bowl. Now Kansas City adds Edwards-Helair, who Veach has told the media he believes is a franchise-type back who reminds him of Brian Westbrook.
