Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is “too good for Arsenal” according to former Liverpool defender and current pundit Jamie Carragher.

With just a quick glance at the Premier League table, you can pick out a few surprises to the traditional order as the league gets set to return. You’d be forgiven for being shocked to find Leicester City, Wolves and Sheffield United all ahead of ninth-placed Arsenal.

The Gunners need to make a drastic improvement if they have any hope of saving face once the season restarts, and one man crucial to their efforts is star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

During the 2018-19 season, Aubameyang finished as joint top-scorer alongside Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah. This season, he has more goals than both of Liverpool’s star forwards — currently sitting in second place in the league’s Golden Boot race just two goals behind the prolific Jamie Vardy.

The Gabon international brings pace, deadly finishing and intelligence to Arsenal’s front line, however even with his offensive prowess Arsenal just aren’t bagging the points needed to climb the table. They sit eight points behind Chelsea, who currently hold the final Champions League spot in fourth place.

Former Liverpool defender and pundit Jamie Carragher spoke to Sky Sports to say that Aubameyang is “too good for Arsenal,” likening the situation to the Liverpool’s experience of losing Luis Suarez when the reds struggled to deliver top-four finishes.

Aubameyang turns 31 this month, still capable of delivering at the highest level, and will perhaps desire to move to a team that can help him finish his career on a winning high.

Arsenal’s current mid-table position, plus their run of three seasons outside of the top four which could soon become four seasons, will certainly leave many to believe the forward is simply too good for a side that cannot deliver Champions League competition.
