The ex-Washington running back is facing accusations by two women who said the incidents happened during his time at LSU

Derrius Guice is accused of sexually assaulting two women, months apart in 2016 when he was a rising freshman at Lousiana State University, according to a report by USA Today.

Both of the women said that Guice raped them while they were sleeping. One of the women, who was a former tennis player at LSU, said that the incident happened after she allowed Guice into her home after they met at a bar, per the USA Today report. The other woman said that the former LSU running back showed up uninvited to a party she was hosting. He entered her bedroom where she was sleeping and proceeded to rape her.

According to an investigation conducted by USA Today, the two rape incidents were shared with multiple people at the school but were not investigated. The two women said that nobody at the school reached out to interview them or potential witnesses about the allegations. The former tennis player said that her rape was reported to the LSU’s Title IX office, but it was never investigated by the school. The second woman was contacted by the school after her friend reported the alleged assault and was asked if she wanted to file a formal complaint. She did not choose to file one.

Peter D. Greenspun, who is Guice’s attorney, released a statement where he denied the allegations against his client. “At no time were allegations of physical or sexual assault brought against Derrius during his years as a student athlete at LSU,” said Greenspun. “To bring up such assertions only after the Virginia charges were initiated certainly calls into question the credibility, nature and timing of what is being alleged years later.

“Such speculation and innuendo should not be the basis for Derrius to be required to make any comment at all. But he wants to be absolutely clear. The allegations in this story are just that and have no basis in fact,” Greenspun also said in his statement.

The recent legal trouble surrounding Derrius Guice

The Virginia charges Greenspun is referring to in the statement are when Guice was arrested on Aug. 7 for domestic violence-related charges. The charges involve battery, assault, and felony strangulation. Soon after his arrest, The Washington Football Team made the decision to release him.  Head Coach Ron Rivera said in a statement to reporters following his release, “Any time you have to release a very talented young football player, it’s always a tough decision. But this type of circumstance, this type of situation, we take those allegations very, very seriously, and we had to make a decision going forward.”

He was also caught speeding in Virginia, doing 95mph in a 55mph zone near the Dulles Airport in Virginia. He has a court date set for September for this incident, adding another legal battle he has to deal with on top of the domestic violence charges and sexual assault allegations.

Guice’s career in the NFL has been marred by injuries. He has had multiple knee injuries, including a torn meniscus last season that caused him to miss nine games. Before he even entered the NFL, there were questions about his maturity. Those questions caused him to slide from the first round into the second round in the 2018 NFL Draft. He was expected to compete for the starting running back role this season.

His domestic violence-related charges and these new allegations by the former LSU women could result in discipline by the NFL. According to NFL Vice President of Communication Brian McCarthy, the league was unaware of any sexual assault allegations or Title IX complaints against Guice until this month.

With the new accusations facing Derrius Guice, it will be very difficult for him to find a new team to play for. He cleared waivers after being released by The Washington Football Team, meaning he is a free agent and can sign with anyone. As for his domestic violence arrest, he was released on bond and is expected to be arraigned in Loudoun County District Court on August 28.
