Dominic Smith miraculously stays in game after running head first into wall

Dominic Smith crashed into the wall at Citi Field trying to catch a fly ball

The end result was Smith remaining on the warning track for several minutes, while Andrew Stevenson ran around the bases for an inside the park home run. The Nationals will take just about any offensive support they can get, but the main storyline of this article, at least, is that Smith somehow managed to stay in the game after going face first into padded concrete.

The Mets have nothing to play for, as they’ve already been eliminated from playoff contention. Washington has been as well, which explains why Stevenson wanted to pad his stats running around the bases while Smith was down on the ground. Always run it out!

Stevenson’s inside the parker tied the game up at three runs apiece. With neither team having anything to play for, including MLB Draft seeding, it’s puzzling why Smith is staying in the game. As a Mets fan favorite, this will only add to his lore in Queens heading into a new era of Metropolitan baseball.

The Mets were recently bought by Steven Cohen for a stunning $4.5 billion valuation. New York should finally be the big free agent spenders that their city and fanbase demands, providing the likes of Smith with more help and perhaps even more padding on the outfield fence.
