Things just keep getting worse for LSU football.

We’ve all heard of the championship hangover and how hard it is to maintain consistency the next year. For LSU football, their descent has been bad, and it just got worse.

According to Geaux247’s Shea Dixon, Head coach Ed Orgeron said that Myles Brennan is dealing with a significant injury and Orgeron gave practice reps to freshmen quarterbacks Max Johnson and TJ Finley. It’s unclear whether Brennan will be able to go against South Carolina.

LSU sits at 1-2 overall and in SEC Play. Their defense has given up 115 points in three games. While their offense has been able to score well, the announcement of the Brennan injury is not a good sign in terms of their recovery efforts this season.

LSU football is in trouble if Brennan doesn’t bounce back.

He suffered what is being described as a lower-body injury in the 45-41 loss to the Missouri Tigers in the second quarter. He threw for 430 yards and four touchdowns in that game. Thus far, he has completed 60.3 percent of his passes and has thrown for 1,112 yards, 11 touchdowns, and three interceptions.

Orgeron had high praise for Brennan’s work ethic and his coaching staff for helping him get better.

“He’s playing as good as I hoped he would. I can tell you that,” Orgeron said. “And I believed in him, and I always believed in Myles. And I always said that. But I knew he had some stuff to get better at. I think the coaches have done a tremendous job of coaching him up.

If Brenan can play but struggles due to his injury, it will be hard for the offense to function properly, and to have either one of the freshmen quarterbacks go out there will make the South Carolina defense happy.

LSU football is in bad shape and they are in desperate need of a win against the Gamecocks who have now won two straight including the big 30-22 victory over the No. 15 Auburn Tigers.

LSU may not make it back to the College Football Playoff this season. It would be very hard to make a case for them especially if they lose to South Carolina this weekend.
