WWE Hell in a Cell featured three matches in the red cell with Randy Orton and Sasha Banks walking out as the new champions.

Each year the Hell in the Cell match is used to bring a brutal end to major feuds on WWE’s SmackDown and Raw brands. Tonight, there were three scheduled bouts for the red cage – all featuring titles from both shows. It was expected to be a very violent evening and the show delivered on that promise.

The first match of the night was not only about the WWE Universal title, but family bloodlines as well. Roman Reigns and Jey Uso battled for the title in an “I Quit” match for the belt.

This match was every bit as brutal as expected. With a slow pace Roman started to beat up on his cousin but Jey would not go away without a fight. Roman continued to threaten Jey within every pause, stopping to let the referee ask if Jey quits. Eventually the weapons would come out, including a steel chair and a giant leather strap. They would use the strap to beat each other senseless, even with Jey trying to strangle Roman at one point.

Roman landed a big kick on the steel steps that sandwiched Jey’s head into the steel ring post. Roman was about to smash the steps into Jey’s head until Jimmy ran out to try to protect his brother. Roman used that to his advantage, snatching Jimmy into a guillotine choke until Jey was forced to say, “I Quit.”

Elias still accuses Jeff Hardy of running him down with a car months ago, leading to tonight’s singles match. Elias controlled much of this match, battering Hardy both inside and out of the ring. Hardy would find a way to fight back, landing his standard offensive moves but was unable to get the pin. The match would end up back outside the ring with Elias trying to use his guitar. Hardy would stop him though, smashing the guitar over Elias’s back to cost himself the match.

The Miz scammed his way into an opportunity to take the Money in the Bank briefcase off Otis. Miz was at a power disadvantage and that showed up early in this match. The Miz would still have his moments of success, almost putting Otis out with a sleeper hold. Otis would not go away, rolling up Miz who watched John Morrison get ejected from ring side. However, the turn would come when Tucker would smash Otis in the head with the briefcase, allowing the Miz to make the pin and take the briefcase home.

Sasha Banks and Bayley have been at war with each other for the last few weeks. This came to ahead in the second Hell in a Cell match of the evening.

Banks came out of the gun very quick, attacking Bayley and locking in the Banks Statement early. Bayley attempted to go for weapons, but Banks stopped her every step of the way. That did not help Bayley when she brought out the table, which was also turned on her by Banks landing a Meteora sending Bayley into the cage.

Bayley landed some insane offense of her own, sending Banks crashing through kendo sticks multiple times. These two ladies landed an onslaught of offense multiple times throughout the match. More kendo sticks, duct tape, a fire extinguisher and ladder came out in this match before the end would occur. The finish would come with Banks wrapping the chair around Bayley’s neck and locking in the Banks Statement to force the submission.

Randy Orton got the jump on Drew McIntyre, attacking the WWE champion before he could get into the ring. They would battle around the ring until McIntyre forced Orton into the ring and shut the door behind him. Just like the previous cell matches from earlier, the brutality came out very quickly. McIntyre slammed Orton into the cage around the ring while Orton used a chair on McIntyre’s legs and jaw. They continued to battle in the ring with both men fighting for an advantage but neither having control for an extended period.

Orton takes things to another level, climbing to the top of the cell, goading McIntyre to follow him. They battled on the top of the cage, but McIntyre would fall, crashing through the announce table. McIntyre would start to cough up blood after the crash but would continue to try to fight. They eventually ended up back in the ring and McIntyre went for the Claymore to miss and eat the RKO allowing Orton to pin him in the center of the ring.
