2021 NFL Mock Draft: Teams trading up for a franchise QB
By Brad Weiss
The Dallas Cowboys have to do something in terms of Dak Prescott this offseason, whether that is franchise tagging him again, or finally giving him a long-term deal. Prescott is widely regarded as one of the top young quarterbacks in the NFL, so it is a bit of a surprise that the franchise has not locked him up for the foreseeable future.
If they do get a job done with Prescott, then the focus has to be towards protecting him, and they add a dominant offensive tackle in Rashawn Slater from Northwestern. With stars at running back and wide receiver, and a bolstered offensive line, this Cowboys offense could be tough to stop in 2021.
At pick No. 11 overall, the New York Giants continue to build up the bright spot of their roster in 2020. Last season, the Giants did a tremendous job on the defensive side of the ball, which was actually quite a surprise when looking at the roster to open the year.
With this pick, the Giants continue to focus on building up their cornerback room, bringing in Patrick Surtain from Alabama. This is one of the more NFL-ready players in this draft class, so the Giants hit the jackpot here in the first round.
San Francisco 49ers have a lot of issues on both sides of the ball, and that includes what they plan to do with quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. It is rumored that they may move on from their signal-caller, a player who took them to the Super Bowl only two years ago.
If the team does decide to move on from Jimmy G, they will be in the market for a quarterback, but picking at No. 12, the top guys are gone at this point. Instead, they decide to bring a player to replace Richard Sherman, adding Virginia Tech star Caleb Farley, the second-best cornerback in this draft class.
