Bayern Munich face Paris Saint-Germain at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday, April 7. Here’s all the info you need to watch this Champions League match.
The Champions League quarterfinal kicks off on Wednesday in Munich with a rematch of last year’s final between Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain, which Bayern won 1-0. Bayern are looking to defend their title, while PSG are looking to exact some revenge and knock out the German champions on their way to their first Champions League title.
Bayern easily knocked Lazio out in the last round. Over the weekend, the Bavarians moved closer to claiming their ninth straight Bundesliga title. Bayern defeated RB Leipzig 1-0 to move seven points clear of the Red Bulls. Bayern were the favorites to repeat as Champions League title holders until Robert Lewandowski suffered an injury on international duty with Poland that will keep him out for a month. Lewandowski has been the best player in the world this season, scoring 42 goals in 35 games. The loss for Bayern is sizable, as manager Hansi Flick will have to adjust his starting XI and game plans. Against Leipzig, Flick decided to start Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting in place of Lewandowski. However, he could shift formations and start either Thomas Muller or Serge Gnabry at striker and move Kingsley Coman into the starting lineup opposite Leroy Sane.
Paris Saint-Germain knocked out Barcelona to reach the quarterfinal for the second straight season. Domestically, PSG are having a disappointing season by their standards. On Saturday, PSG lost to first-place Lille, falling three points behind in the Ligue 1 title race. PSG will rely on their explosive attack to knock out Bayern. Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, Angel Di Maria, and Moise Kean have combined for 64 goals and 28 assists in all competitions. While PSG are dynamic offensively, they are suspect defensively. Manager Mauricio Pochettino will have to make several adjustments as midfielder Marco Verratti is injured and Leandro Paredes is suspended. Additionally, PSG will be without fullbacks Juan Bernat and Alessandro Florenzi, which will leave the club vulnerable to Bayern’s attack.
