The New York Yankees are the worst team in the American League for the first time this century and their fans are taking it in the worst way possible.

New York Yankees fans aren’t used to losing and they’re not taking this season very well.

The Yankees have the worst record in the American League with a 5-8 record through 13 games. This is the first time since April 4, 1998, that the Yankees have been at the bottom of the American League standings. Before Yankees fans jump in and say, “And then what happened?” I’ll stop you right there. This team is not the 1998 team that won the World Series and started a new dynasty.

Derek Jeter is not walking through that door. Bernie Williams is not either. Neither is Paul O’Neill, Andy Pettite, Jorge Posada, Tino Martinez, Mariano Rivera, David Cone, David Wells, Scott Brosius, Daryl Strawberry.

And don’t even get me started on Aaron Boone coming anywhere close to matching Joe Torre on the bench.

New York has their worst on-base percentage, slugging percentage and OPS+ since 1989.

Yankees fans are melting down due to the team’s dismal start

While it is still early and the Boone’s team can begin playing closer to what was expected, their fans have already run out of patience. The entitlement of the Yankees fan base was on full display on Friday night in a blowout loss to the Tampa Bay Rays.

Fans began throwing baseballs on the field during an inning in a full display of unbridled immaturity.

This is not a good look at all. If they keep scuffling into May and June, what will these fans be throwing on the field by then? I shudder to think what spiral of despair these fans will encounter if their team continues to disappoint.

Some fans are just more accustomed to disappointment and cope without throwing stuff onto the field. I guess we can’t expect them to not be little brats.

Even Pete Rose is taking shots at the Yankees now. dark. Next
