2 key offseason moves the Seahawks still need to make

The Seahawks will be focusing on defending their NFC West crown but those in the front office still have work to do on the personnel side.

The Seattle Seahawks endured a tumultuous offseason that was defined by the saga involving franchise quarterback Russell Wilson.

But with whatever grievances Wilson had with the organization seemingly put to bed, at least for now, the Seahawks can focus on preparing to defend an NFC West title for which they will surely face a stern challenge in the best division in football.

Indeed, the Los Angeles Rams are the favorites of many to win the West having defeated the Seahawks in the playoffs last season while the 2019 NFC Champion San Francisco 49ers are expected to bounce from an injury-ravaged 2020 and the Arizona Cardinals loom as dangerous potential rivals.

Though the goal of Pete Carroll and his coaching staff will be on best preparing his team to face those threats, in the front office there is work to do to keep two key pieces of the roster under contract for the long term.

Making only three selections in the draft, the Seahawks did not have the opportunity to do much to aid their long-term future this offseason, but their short-term prospects will be substantially brighter if they can lock down the services of two integral pieces who were critical to Seattle taking back the division crown last year.

And, with training camp on the horizon at the end of the month, there is likely to be pressure on John Schneider and Co. to get deals done before the start of the season.
