Sepp Kuss first American to win Tour de France stage in 10 years

Sepp Kuss made history on the 108th Tour de France Stage 15 as he became the first American to win a Tour de France stage in 10 years and the 8th American to win one. 

Sepp Kuss became the first American to win a Tour de France stage in 10 years on 11 July as he took 192 kilometre long Stage 15 from Ceret to Andorra Le Vielle.

There were four climbs in the stage but Kuss sprinted ahead on the last climb leaving Alejandro Valverde behind with a gap of only 24 seconds and then managing to descend to the finish line as well.

Only seven other American cyclists have won a Tour de France stage and now Sepp Kuss is the eighth.

The last American to win a Tour de France stage was Tyler Farrar, fittingly, on 4 July 2011.

Tour de France current overall race standings

Guilliame Martin tried to maintain his second place in the overall race standings but eventually lost too much time on the climbs and dropped out of the top ten.

Most of those in the top ten rode in together to the finish, getting the same finish time and maintaining their positions.

Tadej Pogacar keeps yellow and the race lead while with Martin dropping out, Rigoberto Uran moves up to second place, Jonas Vingegaard takes third place, Richard Carapaz fourth and Ben O’Connor moves up to fifth place.

Monday 12 July is a rest day for the riders before they start another stage in the Pyrenees on Tuesday.
