Lincoln Riley and the Oklahoma Sooners do it again as they have another 5-star quarterback committed to their football team.

The Oklahoma Sooners are no stranger to elite quarterback talent. From Baker Mayfield to 2021 Heisman candidate Spencer Rattler, Lincoln Riley knows how to groom exceptional passers that fit his offensive scheme. Rattler is the guy entering this upcoming year, but the latest recruit that committed to Oklahoma ensures Riley will have talented signal-callers for the foreseeable future.

Five-star recruit Malachi Nelson announced that he would be attending the university, giving his verbal commitment to Oklahoma on Sunday.

Five-star recruit Malachi Nelson commits to the University of Oklahoma over other Power 5 schools.

Malachi Nelson was a sought-after recruit coming out of high school, especially after the season he put together at Los Alamitos. He threw for 1,513 yards and 23 touchdowns in just six games this past season. He chose the Sooners over Alabama, LSU, Notre Dame, Ohio State, USC, and Florida State, per Sports Illustrated.

“This is a special place, and when I finally got on campus, I felt really comfortable with the staff, the environment, just the vibe on campus. I’m excited to get out there in Norman. We’re gonna make a movie and make something special,” Nelson said per SI.

The reigning California Gatorade Player of the Year still has some time before he has to show up in Oklahoma as a student, but at least he’s done with the recruitment process. According to scouts, Riley will be getting a quarterback who is wise beyond their years.

“The first thing when it comes to Nelson’s tape is you watch how mature his mechanics are and how easily the ball jumps out, and you have to remind yourself that hey, this kid still has two more years of high school,” Sports Illustrated All-American’s director of recruiting John Garcia Jr. said to SI.
