The United States men’s baseball team looks to win their first gold medal since 2000. But they will have to contend with Japan.

The United States men’s baseball team is just one win away from earning their first gold medal at the Summer Olympics since they did so back in 2000. However, Team Japan stands in their way as they look to win their first gold ever in men’s baseball.

Team USA had a lengthy path to the gold medal game, as they defeated the Dominican Republic 3-1 in the second round repechage game to reach the semifinals. From there, they defeated South Korea by the score of 7-2 to advance to the finals.

As for Japan, they do hold a win over the United States in the form of a 7-6 walk-off win in the double-elimination second-round. They then defeated South Korea 5-2 in the semifinals to reach the gold medal game for the first time since 1996.
