Boston Red Sox fans can expect starting pitcher Chris Sale to return in the coming days .

The Boston Red Sox waited patiently for the return of ace Chris Sale as he recovered from Tommy John surgery. After pitching in five games, Sale tested positive for COVID-19 last Friday and subsequently ended up on the reserve list. Red Sox fans wondering when he would be activated won’t have to wait too long.

On Tuesday, Red Sox manager Alex Cora announced that there is a “good chance” Sale will start this upcoming Friday when the team takes on the Baltimore Orioles.

Red Sox: Chris Sale set to return Friday vs. the Baltimore Orioles

The last time Sale took the mound was on Sept. 6 in Boston’s 11-10 extra innings loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. Sale was set to pitch in this past Sunday’s game against the Chicago White Sox, but it was revealed this past Friday that he had tested positive for COVID-19. The left-hander was dealing with asymptomatic symptoms and has been quarantining in his home.

Sale had missed the entire 2020 season after it was revealed he was undergoing surgery on his left elbow. Through his five starts in 2021, Sale recorded a 2.52 ERA, a 1.40 WHIP, 30 strikeouts and six walks in 25.2 innings of work.

The Red Sox are in the middle of a crowded race for the two AL Wild Card berths with less than a month remaining in the regular-season. Getting Sale back on the mound will certainly help them gain some ground. So there you have it Red Sox fans, keep your eyes peeled on Sale’s status as Friday’s game against the Orioles approaches.
