The last SEC East head coach to beat Nick Saban and Alabama in the regular season is Steve Spurrier when he was at South Carolina.

It’s been more than a decade since a coach from the SEC East beat Alabama and Nick Saban.

Go back to Oct. 9, 2010, when Steve Spurrier lead South Carolina to a stunning upset over Alabama.

It’s been more than a decade since an SEC East team has been able to do to Saban what Spurrier did that fall day. It may be a long wait with the way the division has fallen off, with exception of Georgia.

Gamecocks quarterback Stephen Garcia threw three touchdowns in the 35-21 win in the game that would see them go to the SEC Championship Game later that year. Garcia, Spurrier and South Carolina ran into the one-man wrecking crew that was Cam Newton that year but it was a monumental achievement for South Carolina football.

Spurrier had South Carolina football humming under his watch. Double-digit win seasons became the norm under Spurrier who recruited stars like Garcia, Marcus Mattimore and Jadeveon Clowney to campus.
