Believe it or not, this stat proves Mike Norvell is even worse than Willie Taggart

Florida State had not had an 0-3 start to the season in nearly five decades — until Mike Norvell’s team clinched it on Saturday.

Things are not going great for the Florida State Seminoles for the 2021 season. There was promise after the team lost a heartbreaking, overtime game against Notre Dame for their season opener, which then vanished after they lost to Jacksonville State on a Hail Mary. As it turns out, things got even worse for head coach Mike Norvell.

After Florida State’s 35-14 loss to Wake Forest, the Seminoles have started off the season with an 0-3 record for the first time since 1976, which was the first year Bobby Bowden was head coach of the program.

It truly is something to see Norvell clinch a feat that had not been accomplished in 45 years. But it only gets worse. Norvell will have to finish the 2021 season with a 6-3 record to match the 21-game record that former head coach Willie Taggart had. Yikes.

Norvell was hired to lead Florida State’s football program following the successful four-year tenure he had with the Memphis Tigers. Things did not get off to the greatest of starts in his first year, as the Seminoles finished with a 3-6 record in the pandemic-shortened campaign. Now, he is 0-3 with Florida State this season.

When facing the Demon Deacons on Saturday, the Seminoles managed to tally 317 yards of total offense and 14 points. Perhaps the most telling statistic is that Florida State was only 1-for-6 on third down plays. Now compare that to Wake Forest gaining 484 yards while going 8-for-17 on third down.

Florida State and Norvell will look to earn their first win of the season next weekend when they face the Louisville Cardinals.
