The Kansas City Chiefs got an immediate impact from safety Tyrann Mathieu making his season debut against the Ravens after coming off the COVID list.

The Chiefs missed Tyrann Mathieu in Week 1 after he came off the COVID-19 list. He reminded all of Kansas City, Baltimore and America of what a critical presence he is on the football field in the first quarter against the Ravens.

Mathieu picked off a Lamar Jackson pass and took it to the house to open the scoring on Sunday Night Football.

Mathieu’s return should be a huge boost to Kansas City’s defense. They started the season with a hard-fought win over the Cleveland Browns but it was clear their safety’s absence made it that much harder to get the victory.

It matters when quarterbacks like Jackson have to account for the instinctual playmaker.
