Jim Harbaugh was part of the inspiration behind the character Jason Sudeikis plays in the Emmy-winning series Ted Lasso.

Ted Lasso is the biggest show on the planet at the moment with the AppleTV+ series picking up several Emmys and Golden Globes for the incredible first season.

But did you know that the titular character portrayed by Jason Sudeikis was inspired by Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh?

FOX’s Jenny Taft reported during the game she heard Sudeikis modeled some of the character off of coach Harbaugh. “Coach Harbaugh is a no-frills guy from the Midwest. That is exactly who Ted Lasso is,” Taft said on the broadcast.

You’re not alone in not knowing that Sudeikis used Harbaugh-isms for his inspiration of the former Wichita State football coach who leaves the States behind to become the soccer coach at AFC Richmond.

Did Midwestern sensibilities and unbridled enthusiasm could be part of the puzzle pieces that Sudeikis used to pattern the character. But could it also be the khakis and blue jacket he wears all the time as well?

Harbaugh’s penchant for khakis has been much-discussed over the years but he’s shown some wardrobe versatility with dark blue pants recently. Perhaps that’s been a good thing for Michigan because the Wolverines are off to a perfect start.
