Yankees fans got some extra salt in the wound via Boston Red Sox Twitter after losing the Wild Card game to their rivals.

The Boston Red Sox had a lot to celebrate last night after beating the New York Yankees in the AL Wild Card game. Their 6-2 victory advanced them to the American League Division Series where they’ll face the Rays on Thursday night.

Any win against the Yankees is a satisfying win for Boston, but knocking them out in a one-chance playoff contest to send them packing has to be a pretty unrivaled feeling. Especially considering that New York was the favorite and the Red Sox barely pulled off the Wild Card spot.

Needless to say, it was a sweet, sweet victory for Boston. And they took to Twitter to revel in it. As they should.

The celebratory video posted on social media is a final slap in the face to an over-confident Yankees team who initially rejoiced at the thought of getting to face the Red Sox.

Much to the surprise of the Yankees, Boston dominated throughout all nine innings and stifled New York’s playoff hopes from the start. Xander Bogaerts broke the first inning open with a two-run home run and the Red Sox held the lead for the rest of the game. It was the type of win that makes it almost impossible not to take a public punch at anyone who pinned them as underdogs.

Maybe next year the Yankees won’t be so keen to take on their rivals in a crucial game, but until then they’ll have to root against Boston from their couches as they watch the Red Sox fight for a chance at the World Series.
