The speculation over Ed Orgeron’s hot seat has led LSU message boards to wonder about convincing Dabo Swinney to leave Clemson.

If LSU football decides to move on from head coach Ed Orgeron, as many fans hope, the Tigers will be one of the top programs looking for new leadership at the top.

That could give LSU their pick of candidates, but fans on message boards may be aiming a bit too high.

To be fair, that post had a few downvotes at the time of the screenshot.

LSU message boards are pondering Dabo Swinney

It’s not that LSU fans wouldn’t welcome a coach of Swinney’s caliber. It’s that the suggestion is so out there.

Swinney isn’t going to make a lateral move to start over with LSU, where he’d face a much steeper climb each season than he does at Clemson.

Moreover, Swinney has been at Clemson for more than a decade. The idea of him jumping shift after one down season is absurd. He’s recruited too well to leave the Tigers behind.

The only exception to that is widely considered to involve Alabama. He played for the Crimson Tide, so you can bet he’d take a look if Nick Saban decided to retire. There’s a huge difference between leaving for his alma mater and leaving for somewhere like LSU.

Of course, the job in Baton Rouge needs to come open before Swinney can prove any of this. Orgeron’s seat is very hot, but the Tigers haven’t made the move yet.
